Daisy Fuentes
Former Host of MTV's "House of Style"
February 24, 1998
Former Host of MTV’s “House of Style,” Daisy Fuentes, chats about her modeling career, her time with MTV
and her future plans.
JaxCCC: Welcome, Daisy!
Daisy Fuentes: Hello.
Azazel: What's it like hosting
"House of Style"?
Daisy Fuentes: It was really fun
while it lasted, I traveled a lot and it was cool.
Kiana: What projects are you working
on right now?
Daisy Fuentes: Funniest Home Video,
Revlon, different modeling gigs, and a special for ABC, called “Will You Marry Me.” Did you see it?
Jb: Did you attend college before
you started your modeling career of hosting “Americas Funniest Videos”?
Daisy Fuentes: Yes I went for
two years but never finished.
Me: Thank you for being here are
you an internet surfer Daisy? How do you like the internet?
Daisy Fuentes: Umm, I'm not addicted
like most people I know, I like it though, I do chat once in awhile, and I go in as myself, look for me.
Mason: Daisy, I want to be an
actor when I grow up do you have any suggestions?
Daisy Fuentes: Mason, get started
early, start local, and learn as much as you can.
Skillet1: Out of all the work
you've done on TV, what do you enjoy the most?
Daisy Fuentes: I enjoy everything
that has to do with TV, I like watching and making, hosting, or interviewing, or acting.
Scooter: What inspired you to
become an actress/model?
Daisy Fuentes: I can't say anything
really inspired me, until someone offered me a chance, until then it was a fantasy.
Tgirl: Welcome Daisy, you are
a great role model for today's youths. Keep up the good work!
Daisy Fuentes: Thank you, Tgirl.
Matrix: Why did you want to join
America's Funniest Videos?
Daisy Fuentes: It wasn't something
I was looking for, I turned it down at first, because I didn't think I would fit the format. If I was going to
do it I wanted to make some changes, and they agreed.
Wcoyote1: So, do you have to work
out in the gym everyday to keep fit?
Daisy Fuentes: I wish I had that much
discipline, I do it when I can, try to keep everything in moderation, I hate to obsess over anything
Jade: Are you going to be appearing
in any movies soon?
Daisy Fuentes: This is the first time
I am free from my MTV contract , so I am entertaining every reasonable offer.
Scooter: How do you like working with
John Fugelsang?
Daisy Fuentes: We don't know each
other all that well, off camera, but we have an excellent working relationship, we have the right chemistry.
Me: I think you are the greatest and
I am a huge fan of yours, how do you like working on your new show?
Daisy Fuentes: Its as much fun as
it looks I am always cracking up.
Me: What kind of music do you like?
Daisy Fuentes: Umm, good music, no
noise! Talented musicians, Luis Miguel, Janet Jackson, and Eryka Badu.
Bert: What are you planes for the
future?
Daisy Fuentes: Cool things on TV,
take some more personal time off, actually I am thinking of a spiritual trip, perhaps India.
Cristlyte: What type of acting roles
are you most interested in?
Daisy Fuentes: That's a toughie. Perhaps
comedy or mystery. I learned to respect comedy when I attended a weekend gig with MTV, with Martin Short.
Kate: Daisy, do you choose the clothes
you wear on the show or do they decide for you? Do you ever wear things that you really don't think look good on
you?
Daisy Fuentes: Never! They never make
me wear anything I don't want to, I have to feel good, I choose my own clothes, but there are network standards.
Sassy1: Have you had any drawbacks
because of your nationality with becoming a celebrity?
Daisy Fuentes: On the contrary it
has helped, The Latin market was the first to open its doors to me, without my background I doubt I would be in
the business now.
Dave: I just want to say I'm a big
fan, and I love your work. You are wonderful.
Daisy Fuentes: Thank you.
Jb: Daisy, do you have any advice
for us, to accomplish goals and following you dreams?
Daisy Fuentes: Yes, as long as really
want it , it shouldn't be that hard, it helps to know yourself and be comfortable in your own skin, you must be
original and follow your instincts
Volo: Ever since you "made it
big" in Hollywood, you have had much less visibility within the Latino community. How have your relations
with Latinos as a whole changed since your Hollywood success?
Daisy Fuentes: That really hasn't
been my choice opportunities are limited, I do what I can, lately, a lot of magazines and TV shows are more interested
in gossip, so I have unconsciously stayed away.
Sweetie: What advice would you give
to an inspiring model?
Daisy Fuentes: Don't starve yourself
to impress anyone, be careful with agencies, educate yourself, start with local fashion shows or small events.
Blondie29: Hi again Daisy, my 7 yr
old son is here and he wanted me to tell you hello and he loves Funniest Home Vids.
Daisy Fuentes: Hello. Thank you, can
he send me a funny video?
Ruby19: Daisy what are your favorite
hobbies?
Daisy Fuentes: I love cooking, and
I love wine, wine tasting is my affection.
Jb: Daisy I watched a talk show with
you on it last week, you said you did not like the way you looked when you were a weather girl for that Spanish
station? I thought you were beautiful now as you were then.
Daisy Fuentes: That is the sweetest
thing anyone has ever said to me, thanks!
Cristlyte: Is there another supermodel
that has been a role model to you?
Daisy Fuentes: I wouldn't say role
model, Mother Teresa is a role model, as far as model friends, Cindy Crawford and Tyra Banks is like loyal friend.
Ladylightdragon: At what age did you
start modeling? And at what age do you think is the best for children to start?
Daisy Fuentes: I don't think they
should start too young, children deserve a normal childhood, if they have a natural talent, support them. Perhaps
in the teens start slowly.
Sue: How was it to meet Selena?
Daisy Fuentes: From the minute we
said hello to each other, there was an instant friendship, even though we didn't stay in touch, we felt like we
had known each other forever. We talked for hours about everything. She had a wonderful energy, and knew how to
light up a room.
Sugarpie: Do you miss MTV? How long
were you there?
Daisy Fuentes: Almost 10 years, I
miss it at times, but I was ready to move on to better things, I still keep in touch with friends.
Chatterj: Daisy, what do you consider
while accepting/rejecting modeling contracts?
Daisy Fuentes: Good question. First
the product , then the company, I try to work with organizations that do charitable work, most do. I look at the
concept (creatively) and finally the offer itself.
Scottish1: So what do you like to
do other than model and acting? Like any sports?
Daisy Fuentes: I have to admit I am
a bit lazy, I am constantly on the move, when I have down time I like to relax, on the beach and the sun.
Ezguest16: Where did you go to college?
Daisy Fuentes: Bergen County College
in New Jersey.
Sportman: What did you want to be
when you grew up?
Daisy Fuentes: I never really knew
what I wanted to be, I always envied the other kids who had a career down since 5th grade, I was creative and knew
I loved entertainment, I never dreamed I would be involved.
Psycomike: What was it like working
on MTV, doing the beach shows and all, probably a dream job but were there any downsides?
Daisy Fuentes: Definitely a dream
job. Especially when you are in your early 20s, the downsides were the constant travel, but it took a few years.
Ketch: What's more important career
or happiness?
Daisy Fuentes: Definitely happiness.
Ezguest11: Daisy, I heard that you
are a cigar fan, is that true?
Daisy Fuentes: I am a little bit of
a fan, it depends on the mood and atmosphere, the cigar and the company.
Musicfan: Do you plan on writing a
book at all in the near future?
Daisy Fuentes: Umm, yes I came pretty
close to doing one, but I need to find something I feel really strongly about, it will happen one day.
Sugarpie: Are you musically talented,
for instance, can you sing, dance, play instruments, etc.?
Daisy Fuentes: I love to dance. In
my 8th grade yearbook I was best dancer, and I studied piano for 6 years but I need some more lessons. My real
dream is to sing.
Jumbojacque: Will you be doing cameos
with MTV from time to time?
Daisy Fuentes: I don't see why not,
perhaps.
Deamoness: Daisy, I worked with you
a couple of years ago in Uruguay and you had an interview with Soda Stereo's drummer and his former girlfriend.
I just wanted to congratulate you on the way you handled what must have been a weird situation for those two people!
Daisy Fuentes: It was weird, but they
were very professional, I knew him from before so it wasn't that bad, how do you remember that?
Pmdic911: Daisy, just want to tell
you we all have your calendars in our fire stations.
Daisy Fuentes: I hope you started
some fires of your own!
Phish1: I am a 22 year old male and
am taking acting in college do you have a tips for me on how to be a successful actor?
Daisy Fuentes: Be yourself, don't
copy anyone and start thinking of yourself as a success right now!
Jordan15: What's your favorite TV
show and actor?
Daisy Fuentes: That's tough, I don't
have one favorite actor, but I like “Friends,” “Ally McBeal” and “20/20” and “Americas Funniest Videos!”
Mason: Daisy I think you are beautiful
and I want to congratulate you on your success.
Daisy Fuentes: Thanks so much that
means a lot.
Deamoness: Are you planning on doing
anything new with MTV US or Latino?
Daisy Fuentes: No immediate plans,
perhaps soon.
Mysterygirl: Daisy, Welcome to TalkCity!
It's great to have you with us. How was the transition from your previous style show to this new show? What are
the differences or advantages?
Daisy Fuentes: The difference is this
feels more like my own show, I am much more settled with this show, its in one location and that a plus for me
now, the style was not as much of a challenge
Baloo1: Will you be in any upcoming
movies?
Daisy Fuentes: Not that I know of.
Ninerbabe: Hi Daisy, I'm a big fan
of yours and we just wanted to ask how you keep in such good shape
Daisy Fuentes: Thank you so much for
thinking that, sometimes its a lot harder than other times. This business is all about looking right, so I need
to eat and work out in moderation.
Arabian: What is your favorite line
of work, modeling or TV?
Daisy Fuentes: Definitely TV.
Plastic: Do you ever use the Internet
under an alias?
Daisy Fuentes: I don't use an alias.
Cozmick-q: Daisy, I've always wanted
to start modeling, how and what do I need to do to get started?
Daisy Fuentes: Basically just do it,
investigate the agencies, even if they don't take you right away, ask for advise, just do it.
Jughead2: Daisy I love seeing you
a lot on the TV when I watch TV and like the way you look on it but I was wondering if you would come to my Website
& sign my guestbook please, my URL is www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity.
Daisy Fuentes: I make no promises
, but I will do my best.
Phish1: Daisy what is your most emotional
moment as an actress?
Daisy Fuentes: I'm still waiting for
it, the second best was going to the Oscars and hoping to win even though I am not nominated.
Firebird: If you could go any place
in the world, where would you go?
Daisy Fuentes: Acapulco, that is where
my heart feels at home.
Stagger-lee: Where is the most interesting
place you have been to in your travels?
Daisy Fuentes: Spain, so far, it where
my background and family tree is, the culture fascinates me.
JaxCCC: Our show has come to an end
this evening. We thank you, our great audience, and a very special thank you to our guest Daisy Fuentes. Talk City
